Peterbilt 379’s are famous for their style and luxurious ride. So, it comes as no surprise that the Transformers Franchise wanted Optimus Prime–one of the lead protagonists in the film–to be a Pete. With their dynamic, long nose and eye-catching geometrically proportioned body, 379’s demand attention on the highways and the big screen. However, in typical Hollywood fashion, even the greatest beauties need some “touching up.” According to sources close to the film, an entire team of artists was brought together to design and create the perfect look for the vehicle/film character. Here at Raney’s, we understand what vision and the right parts can produce. As lovers of all things chrome and diesel, we broke down all the parts and accessories that adorn the truck that has been viewed by millions across the globe. And what it would cost to build your own version of Optimus Prime.
Other Optimus Prime Features
No stone was left unturned when adding features that would embolden the Optimus Prime’s character. Other exterior accessories that you don’t see on this list are a Dyna Light headache rack, Dome-style rear axle covers (if you’re looking for the 33mm version, you can find that here), and a Trux Rear Center Panel with Oval Flatline LEDs. All-in-all, to equip your Truck with the same parts and accessories as those found on Optimus Prime, you would be spending a little over $9,000.00.
The interior of the truck was left primarily untouched, as the cameras never peered inside the vehicle in the film.
For those of you who want to own the actual Optimus Prime truck used in the film (shown in the image above), it is unfortunately no longer available for purchase. In 2016, the truck was purchased by Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, at a Barrett-Jackson Collector-Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona for $121,000.00.
